On October 27, we welcomed a brand new sefer torah into the Chabad House! The Sefer Torah was sponsored by the Shagalow Family and dedicated in loving memory of Rabbi Shaya Shagalow’s mother, Mrs. Ettel Shagalow. Students, family and friends were invited to inscribe the final letters of the torah, dance with the new torah, and enjoy a festive meal in celebration of its completion. In response to the massacre in Pittsburgh, we dedicated a “Hakafa” in memory of the eleven Jewish victims, and we lit candles in their memory. Prayers were also added for the wounded members and law enforcement officers. Rabbi Shaya shared that he and his family were “humbled to be able to include our 11 brothers and sisters in our special day.” We want to give a huge thank you to Rabbi Shaya and the entire Shagalow family as well as everyone who came to join in the beautiful dedication and exiting celebration of the new Sefer Torah. It was truly a special event and we look forward to using the Sefer Torah at the Rutgers Chabad House. #RutgersChabad #RUJewishLife #StrongerTogether
